Long ago, according to Greek mythology, Prometheus defied the gods by stealing fire from them and gifting it to humanity. At Prometheus Cybersecurity, we use more than just the name. We took something like enterprise-grade cybersecurity and delivered it to businesses that need it most, because we know that before the risk becomes a catastrophe.
It all started with John Gibson. Theatre student, tech enthusiast, and storyteller at heart. John’s journey began with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a Theatre minor at Indiana University.
From here, John spent years working with Fortune 500 names (Veritas, Symantec, Dell / EMC) in storage virtualization and data replication.
In 2019, he got certified (CISSP) and began teaching cybersecurity. He was poised to launch a “side‐hustle.” When he was ready to teach, the campus unexpectedly closed in 2020.
So he pivoted and taught a full 24‐week course over Zoom. This experience exposed him to open‐source elements of cybersecurity that ignited a vision: What if enterprise‐class security didn’t have to carry hefty prices?
From that moment, Prometheus was born and eventually expanded. In 2023, John rewrote the business plan. He codified what he’d been doing into four pillars: Education, Solutions, Managed Services, Premium Consulting.
